Fred pushed up the grate in front of his souvenir shop and turned the key in the lock. He flipped on the lights and began getting the store ready to open. Vanessa arrived right before nine and put on her apron. She counted out the money in the register and announced, “I’m all set, let’s let them in.” Fred propped the door open and within seconds, the first tourists had already come in to make their purchases. Fred and Vanessa worked almost without stop for over an hour, selling keychains magnets, t-shirts and coffee mugs with their exclusive logo of the city.

"It’s busy today,” Vanessa said while she took advantage of a lull and sat down to rest. “It’s been like this all week,” Fred replied. “Ever since the mayor closed off Main Street and opened up that new gallery, people have been flocking here. If this keeps up, I will have to double our stock for next month.” “If this keeps up, we will both be exhausted,” Vanessa joked. “If we hadn’t bought that exclusive design, we wouldn’t have nearly so many customers,” Fred said while he stared at the elegant logo that a local artist had created for him.
