How do most people travel in your city?
Janice pulled her car into the narrow street that led to her office building and immediately came to a complete stop. Cars were lined up in both directions as far as she could see. She tapped her fingers on the steering wheel and wanted to back up and take a different road, but someone was already behind her and she was trapped. Traffic inched forward slowly and Janice watched the clock tick closer to the time she needed to be at work. She was going to be late again.

She picked up her phone and called her boss. “Hey, Michael. I’m going to be a little late. I am caught in the traffic on Juniper Street again” “Again? Janice, this is the third time this month. If you are going to drive, you will need to leave earlier.” "I can’t leave earlier, Michael, I have to take the twins to school and I can’t do that before 8:45. Besides, this isn’t my fault, all of the tourists come to the downtown early so they can find a parking spot. If I could park on the main street, I wouldn’t have to drive down Juniper.”

"You know the mayor decided to make Main Street a pedestrian area after those two tourists got hit during rush hour.” “Well, the tourists need to pay attention and not walk out in the middle of the street,” Janice muttered. “All these tourists here day after day are really driving me crazy.” “You’ll have to take this up with the mayor if you want a change. But for now, if you’re late again, I’ll have to dock your salary.”

The cars moved forward again and Janice finally reached the end of the street. Her office was on the right, but she impulsively turned to the left and crossed Main Street again. She made another left and found parking outside of the town hall. She ran inside and joined the line of citizens waiting at the front desk. When it was finally her turn, she stepped forward and said, “I’d like to know how I can make a formal complaint to the mayor.”

Help! I am in the slowest line ever. I have to get out of this store and back to work, or my boss will dock my pay. I heard that the new video game was on sale and jumped in my car and drove to the store. Now I am with hundreds of people who all want to buy the game.
