What things are important to a community?
Reading
dystopian
The Giver by Lois Lowry is a fictional novel that takes place in a dystopian alternate universe. It’s different from the real world, this setting, because people have figured out a way to eliminate all pain. There are downfalls which are caused by this improvement, though. These problems are discovered as Jonas, the main character, begins to learn more about the real world.
Reading
mischevious
Jonas lives a normal life with a typical family. He has caring parents and a younger sister. He goes to school and has friends. He is mischievous and sometimes gets into trouble. But things begin to happen that make Jonas begin to think that not everything is as it should be. It is as he gets older that he realizes he is different from everyone else.
Reading
comprehend
When the young adults are given their assigned job, Jonas is told he will be the receiver of memories. He begins to experience true feelings, colors, and music, all things that his fellow townspeople are unable to comprehend. When he learns about some of the horrible things that are happening in the community, Jonas is forced to make a change to his comfortable existence.
Reading
