Hi Kat, I’m sitting here in my new, big room thinking about all the changes there have been in my life. To start with, the house is actually kind of nice. It’s great that I don’t have to share a room with Melissa anymore, and it was fun to decorate and put up all my posters. I got to buy a new desk and mom says she’s going to let me have a telephone. (But I think this is just because she feels guilty because I can no longer see any of my friends.)

So, that’s the good news, but let me warn you. Everything else sucks. The biggest difference in my life right now is the school. Back home, we had so many after school activities that it was hard to decide what to do. Here there is no orchestra (only band), no theatre club and the show choir had already had try-outs before I arrived. The only club is student council, but nobody knows me, so I can’t possibly get any votes, and I could never become president.

The classes are super easy and there has been a huge increase in my boredom every day. So far I have aced three tests and I didn’t study at all. I wanted to take advanced biology, but that is only open to seniors, so I am forced to sit through awful, earth science again. Maths looks like it might be interesting, because the teacher lets us solve problems with calculators, but every other class is yawnsville.

The only sport they offer in the fall is volleyball, and you know I hate that sport. I tried to find a running club or a group of people to accompany me in the evening, but apparently no one likes running here. I went on my own yesterday, but the town is so small I had to just keep running past the same buildings until I got tired. Write back soon, I am miserable here. Your very miserable friend, Mary
