“Hey guys, come look! There’s a ladybug in the garden!” Jenna peeked in the window and motioned for us to join her outside.Damon, Carrie, and I were inside playing video games while Jenna was watering the plants.Carrie hit pause on the game and jumped up to run outside. “I love ladybugs,” she shouted.“If you love ladybugs so much, why don’t you eat one?” Damon teased.“I’d eat a ladybug,” I said solemnly. “I bet they’re crunchy and delicious.”

slid
“I once dreamed that I was a ladybug,” Carrie said softly. “I floated around in a gigantic garden. The sun was hot, but the wind kept trying to push me off the flowers. I remember that I was on a big, orange lily, and I slid right off one of the petals onto the long, green leaves, and just before I was about to hit the ground, the wind picked me back up, and I was back inside the flower.”

knowingly
“But weren’t you a ladybug?” Damon asked. “You could have just flown back up into the flower.”“It was only a dream, silly. Besides, maybe I wanted to crawl instead of fly. I bet flying is exhausting.”“You’re the one who is silly,” Damon replied. “If an animal can fly, it won’t get tired from flying. It’s just like walking for us.”“Sometimes walking is exhausting,” Carrie replied knowingly. “Imagine if you had to walk all day without a break. When they migrate, some birds fly all day without stopping. I bet they’re exhausted.”

Damon rolled his eyes and looked back at me. “Anyway, about that ladybug. I’ll give you five bucks if you really eat it.” “If you catch it, I’ll eat it,” I responded and held out my hand, waiting for Damon to give me the ladybug.”Jenna shrieked and tried to shield the ladybug from Damon’s hands. “If you’re going to eat an insect, it definitely shouldn’t be a ladybug. Ladybugs aren’t pests at all. They are extremely beneficial for the garden.”

shack
“Fine, fine,” Damon muttered. “So he won’t eat a ladybug. Let’s find something that’s not beneficial at all.”A big, fat, black housefly flew over our heads, and Damon pointed at it. “You can eat a fly.”“I am not going to eat a fly,” I declared. “They are disgusting, dirty insects. If I ate a fly, I would probably get really sick.”“Damon ate a fly once,” Jenna interrupted. “It was while we were on the bike path by the railroad tracks. We had just passed that old, dirty shack where the crazy lady lives. Don’t you remember?”

trespassing
“I remember that lady,” Carrie admitted. She came out of the shack waving that big old shovel and yelled that we were trespassing and that we better get off of her property.” “And she had that big, dirty dog that barked and barked,” I added, as the memory returned. “Then she let go of the leash and the dog started chasing us and we had to go up that steep hill as fast as we could,” Damon smiled at the memory. “I remember feeling like I couldn’t breathe, and I knew the dog was right behind me, but I couldn’t pedal any faster,” Jenna added.
