I have heard about the protest that the students of Towahee Secondary school have mounted against the uniform policy that is currently in place. I would like to see this protest stopped by the administration. I think the students have acted terribly and should be punished severely. The uniform policy is in place for a reason and the students are completely out of line for disobeying its rules.

To begin with, studies have proven that using uniforms at school encourages a focus on the academic aspects, which should always be the most important goal of a school. Uniforms increase safety, as the students no longer suffer from peer pressure or the constant struggle to fit in with the newest fashions and trends. This causes cases of bullying to be reduced and allows the students to feel comfortable in their school environment.

A uniform also reduces distractions and encourages the students to look professional, which will prepare them for their future workplace. Many students will work in jobs where they will be required to wear a uniform as well, so it is best that they get used to it at a young age. A uniform also ensures that students enter the school on a level playing field. The rich students will not be able to show off with flashy, expensive clothes which make poorer students feel bad.

I hope that the arguments I have presented will convince the school board that the uniform policy that is in place is for the students’ best interests and should not be changed. The focus of school is academics and not fashion. I hope that the school will continue to enforce its strict dress code and allow the students to realise what is truly important. Thank you for letting me speak today.
