Jenny sat on the steps outside the library and squinted as a cloud moved to cover the sun. “What do you think?” She turned toward her younger brother. “Should we walk to the store or wait for mom to pick us up?" “In my opinion, it is too hot to walk anywhere right now,” Sammy replied. “If we go to the store, I’ll buy you an ice cream cone,” Jenny promised her brother. Sammy jumped up instantly and rushed down the stairs, shouting with joy.

Jenny walked slowly down the stairs and joined her brother on the sidewalk. While they walked toward the corner store, Jenny looked into the different windows along Main Street. She slowed down in front of the boutique and stared at the dress in the front window. “I wonder if mom would buy me this dress,” she said aloud. “What’s your opinion?” Sammy turned around and ran back to his sister. “I really doubt it,” he shook his head. “It’s almost 200 dollars.”
deserve
Reading
“I believe I deserve this dress,” Jenny exclaimed. “I did a lot of housework and I babysat you all summer.” “I disagree,” Sammy said while he pulled his sister away from the window. “I deserve 200 dollars for putting up with you all summer.” The siblings entered the corner store and spent a few minutes enjoying the air conditioning. Finally, Jenny picked up an ice cold can of lemonade and a bag of snacks. Sammy chose a triple fudge chocolate ice cream cone.

Reading
Once they were back on the sidewalk, Sammy pointed across the street. “We could go to the toy store,” he suggested. “I’m not sure,” Jenny answered. “They won’t let us in with food, and you need to wash your sticky hands before you touch anything.” “We could go to the park, then.” Sammy said. “They have a fountain where I can wash my hands.” “That’s a great idea,” Jenny agreed, and the two turned at the corner toward the park.
