What is DCS?
DCS stands for Digital Clinical System, which is the Trust's electronic patient record (EPR) that has replaced some paper records and old clinical systems. DCS went live in June 2025. Watch the video below to find out more.

Accessing e-learning
Totara is the online learning platform where you can access your DCS e-learning. See the video below to find out how to log in to Totaro.

What is the Network?
The Network is like a web of connected devices (computers, phones, servers) that talk to each other using invisible threads (wires or Wi-Fi). All trust computers are connected to the Trust Network. Tap the video below to find out more about the Network. It may take a moment for the video to load.

LMS
Imagine a digital classroom where teachers and students can share lessons and assignments. The Learning Hub is an LMS.
The Start Up Menu (or just 'Start') is the window pane in the bottom left hand corner of your screen. It shows all the apps and programmes you can use on your computer.
SharePoint
This Is a collection of Microsoft tools which make it easier to share documents and work together online. It's part of 365 and is similar to Office, but instead of apps it runs in your browser.
Office 365
This is a productivity suite. It includes Office tools (like Word and Excel), Windows, Outlook, Sharepoint, Teams, and extra security stuff.
Apps
These are mini programmes on your phone or computer. They help you do specific tasks, like checking the weather or playing games. They are different to websites.
VLE
A virtual learning environment (VLE) is an online space where students and teachers can interact, share resources, and learn together. Moodle is a VLE.
iOS
This stands for iPhone Operating System. This is the system that runs on iPhones and iPads, similar to how Windows runs on your computer.
ESR
ESR stands for Electronic Staff Record. This is where you will find your personal information such as payment, training and learning records. This is also where you can access you mandatory online learning (e-learning).
Webinar
This is an online workshop or seminar. People gather virtually to learn about a specific topic.
Your Windows username and password (or Windows logon) will be set up by IT when you join the trust. Your username is usually your first initial followed by your surname, possibly ending in a number. You can ask IT to reset your password if you don't know it.
NHSMail
It’s a special email service used by NHS staff in the UK to talk to each other securely. It uses the Microsoft Outlook email programme.
CMS
A Content Management System (CMS) is an organiser for websites. You can create, edit, and organise content easily. WordPress and Wix are both content management systems.
Cloud
An invisible storage facility on the internet where you can keep your files and access them from anywhere (you don't have to be on the network). OneDrive is on a cloud.
AI
Aritifical Intelligence (AI) is like a smart robot that can learn and make decisions on its own. Predictive text is an example of AI.
Network
The network connects all computers and devices together. At East Cheshire you can view things like files and documents which you can't see if you aren't at work (on the network).
Your ESR username and password is different to your windows logon (username and password). Your ESR username begins with 209.
Browser
It’s the app you use to explore the internet. Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge are browsers you can use on your computer. Safari is what you use on iPhones and iPads.
MultiFactor Authetication (MFA) is like having two locks on your door instead of one. When you log in to your account, you not only need a password but also a special code from your phone or another device to make sure it’s really you. Examples of this are: Azure or Duo Mobile.
ML
Machine Learning (ML) is a computer that gets better at something over time by learning from data produced.
Office
Office is a toolbox created by Microsoft, with tools like Word (for writing), Excel (a spreadsheet for numbers), and PowerPoint (for making presentations).
Logon
When you want to use your computer you have to 'logon' by typing in your username and password.
Windows
Windows is an operating system. This is the main control centre for your computer. It helps you run programmes and do things on your PC like writing a report or searching the internet.
