Date: May 27th, 2024 Location: Singapore Context: In Singapore, we have been working with Shopee since the beginning of 2024 requesting the disclosure of certain seller details. Despite our strong efforts in dealing with online infringers, Shopee still refused to proceed with proper actions (their proposed settlement was unacceptable) and thus, we escalated the case to the High Court of the Republic of Singapore and eventually, received a favorable court ruling. Results: Shopee would need to disclosure the information on the 18 targeted sellers on its platform. The Court also confirmed the following: There was facilitation of wrongdoing by Shopee. There is a reasonable prima facie case of wrongdoing by the sellers. It is just and convenient in the interests of justice to order the disclosure. Status: Case closed.

Over S$2 million worth of counterfeit perfume, candles and diffusers seized; man arrested - CNA (channelnewsasia.com)
- It is quite rare for the police to run an in-depth investigation and for the AGC to prosecute offenders under the Trade Marks Act, but this case is special because of the exceptional quantity of products stocked in Singapore, whereas Singaporean sellers usually have more recourse to ‘drop shopping’ (i.e., an arrangement in which a manufacturer sends products directly to buyers at the request of businesses who advertise and sell the products but do not stock them).
- It’s very rare for the police to request an extradition, which is usually reserved for felonies or misdemeanors.
