Religious Education has a significant role for the development of pupils’ spiritual, moral, social and cultural development. It promotes respect and open-mindedness towards others with different faiths and beliefs and encourages pupils to develop their sense of identity and belonging through self-awareness and reflection. The principle aim of RE is to engage pupils in an enquiry approach where they can develop an understanding and appreciation for the expression of beliefs, cultural practices and influence of principle religions and worldviews in the local, national and wider global community. Religious Education provides an opportunity for children to explore and test out different ideas about the world that we are living in. We believe that these opportunities should be clearly rooted in understanding about different religions. This understanding then underpins the children’s confidence to question ideas and make links to their own experiences and opinions. We believe that these opportunities and experiences provide children in our school with the understanding of why Religious Education is relevant to their lives now and how it will continue to be relevant in the future. British Values are embedded in the teaching of RE and consist of: - democracy. - the rule of law. - individual liberty. - mutual respect for and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs and for those without faith
