Music is an integral part of human life. It is a unique way of communicating and brings inspiration, emotion and creativity to its listeners and participants. Music is essential in the development of a Cedar pupil’s whole self. The skills they learn in music are transferrable into many areas of their school life – from the mathematical rhythm and counting of a beat, to the physical action of playing an instrument. Through listening, playing, composing and performing, children will develop their creative skills and improve their confidence and emotional well-being. Performing as part of a group, listening and giving feedback to others builds their ability to communicate effectively and work as part of a team. As children practise and improve their skills, they learn the self-motivation and determination that will serve them well in their adulthood and as respected members of the community. Music can help children to recognise their own emotional reactions and, in turn, help them to express themselves when words fail to do so.
