Computing and Technology underpins all aspects of today’s modern lifestyle. As a result of this, it is essential that all pupils gain the confidence and ability that they need in this subject, to prepare them for the challenge of a rapidly developing and changing technological world. Computing has deep links to mathematics, science and design technology, and provides insights into both natural and artificial systems. The core of computing is computer science, in which pupils are taught the principles of information and computation, how digital systems work, and how to put this knowledge to test through programming. Building on this knowledge and understanding, pupils are equipped to use information technology to create programmes, and systems and express themselves and develop their ideas. At Cedar Children’s Academy our aims for computing are that pupils: Enjoy using information technology and tackle all applications with confidence and a sense of achievement and purpose. Develop practical skills in the use of information technology and the ability to apply these skills to the solving of relevant and worthwhile problems. Understand the capabilities and limitations of information technology and consequences of use. Understand and apply the fundamental principles and concepts of computer science, including abstraction, logic, algorithms and data representation. Analyse problems in computational terms, and have repeated practical experience of writing computer programmes in order to solve such problems. Use information technology as a tool appropriately across the curriculum to support and enrich their learning. Become responsible technology users, knowing how to avoid, report and discourage inappropriate use.
