Cecilia Vicuña
- Cecilia Vicuña was born in Chile, South America in 1948.
- She makes sculptures out of textiles and thread.
- She is also a poet and her art is often displayed with sound.

What are quipu?
- Cecilia Vicuña uses a type of knot called quipu in some of her art.
- Quipu are colourful and made from llama hair.
- In ‘Brain Forest Quipu’, she uses knots in the hanging threads to make us think about rainforests and climate change.

Making a plait
Knot three colours of wool together.

Stick the knotted wool to the table.

Separate the three strands.

Move the wool on the right between the two other strands, so it’s in the middle.

Now move the wool on the left into the middle.

Keep moving the wool from the right and left into the middle.

Keep your fingers near the plait to keep it tight.
