The ONS suggested the increase could possibly be down to an ageing cohort of drug users suffering from the effects of long-term use, as well as new trends in taking certain drugs - including gabapentinoids and benzodiazepines - at the same time as heroin or morphine.

In conclusion, the problem we aim to resolve is the widespread and damaging issue of substance abuse. This problem not only devastates individuals but also disrupts families and communities. By educating people about the dangers of substance abuse, providing easy access to treatment, ensuring strong support networks and encouraging safety amongst users we can hopefully prevent substance abuse and encourage a healthy lifestyle!
