Evaluation of the library program

From Theory to Practice: A New Teacher-Librarian Tackles Library Assessment

Analyses of the library daily usage and feedback from the community, students, and faculty are essential for refining processes and securing future support and funding. Informed purchasing of resources can be made to meet the needs of the learning community. We must document and demonstrate the value of our services to keep libraries open.

Infographics can be presented via many tools and formats. In his weblog, James Allen offers templates and tips to show you how easy promoting your library's data is.

School Library Programs: Standards and Guidelines for Texas

The Texas State Library and Archives Commission and the Texas State Board of Education collaborated to create recommended standards for school library services that also align with the national library media standrads. While these standards are not mandated, they can be used as an evaluation tool to examine a school library program to work toward educational objectives.

Application

When it comes to collecting data, you probably want to have an idea of what you want to collect before the school year, or perhaps the new semester starts. Plan out collection statistics and keep a running total throuout the year, so compiling data isn't such a big undertaking. Plan a survey for pre-service and post -service to make comparisons, and don't forget to communicate your findings.

Application

The Texas School Library Program Standards and Guidelines rubric is a great tool for evaluating a school library program. As I read through the strands and domains, I can begin to set goals for my second year as a librarian. Our district library personnel annual evaluation tool also uses pieces from the document in place of a formal T-TESS observation since they don't use that tool for the campus "library media specialists."

Application

Exploring new Web 2.0 apps can be fun, but snagging a template for a tool you are familiar with is an amazing time saver for a busy librarian. In fact, I already have the Canva template saved and the first few fields filled out. I want to be able to post the data on the library's door and on our website!
