scaffolding for effective learning in CLIL

NOT SCAFFOLDING
Scaffolding is breaking up the learning into chunks and providing a tool, or structure, with each chunk. When scaffolding reading, for example, you might preview the text and discuss key vocabulary, or chunk the text and then read and discuss as you go. Builders use scaffolding during construction to reach higher level, in the same way scaffolding in the classroom helps students navigate content and finish tasks they otherwise might not have been able to.
Scaffolding
What is it exactly?
Vygotsky’s (1978) concept of the Zone of Proximal Development
The zone of proximal development refers to the difference between what a learner can do without help and what he or she can achieve with guidance and encouragement from a skilled partner.
Thus, the term “proximal” refers to those skills that the learner is “close” to mastering.
