Tratado de Westfalia (1648)

Edad Media (siglo V - siglo XV)

Antigüedad (hasta el siglo V)

Las primeras civilizaciones, como Mesopotamia, Egipto, Grecia y Roma, establecen normas y acuerdos para las relaciones entre pueblos. Aunque no es Derecho Internacional en el sentido moderno, sientan las bases para el respeto de tratados y la diplomacia.

Durante este período, se desarrollan conceptos como la justicia de guerra y la paz, y se realizan numerosos tratados entre los estados y ciudades-estado de Europa.

Marcando el final de la Guerra de Treinta Años en Europa. Estableció el principio de la soberanía estatal y la no intervención en los asuntos internos de otros estados., fundamentos del Derecho Internacional moderno.

Desarrollo posterior

Durante las décadas siguientes, se establecen numerosos tratados internacionales en áreas como los derechos humanos, el medio ambiente y el derecho del mar, ampliando y profundizando el alcance del Derecho Internacional.

Siglo XIX

Aumenta la formalización de las leyes internacionales con la creación de la primera Conferencia Internacional en 1815 (Congreso de Viena) y el desarrollo de reglas para el manejo diplomático y la resolución de conflictos internacionales.

Primeras Conferencias de La Haya (1899 y 1907)

Marcan el inicio de la codificación del Derecho Internacional Humanitario y las leyes de guerra. Se establecen reglas más claras sobre la conducción de hostilidades y la protección de los civiles en tiempos de guerra.

Creación de la Liga de las Naciones (1919)

o Después de la Primera Guerra Mundial, se crea la Liga para fomentar la cooperación internacional y asegurar la paz. Aunque eventualmente fracasa, sienta las bases para las futuras organizaciones internacionales.

Creación de las Naciones Unidas (1945)

o Tras la Segunda Guerra Mundial, se crea la ONU para promover la paz, la seguridad y la cooperación internacional. A través de la ONU y sus cortes afiliadas, el Derecho Internacional se expande y se fortalece.
