About the Library

The Library & Knowledge Service is based in the LE&D Hub on the 1st Floor, New Alderley House. The library provides access to resources, services such as evidence searches and training, as well as a physical space to study and learn.

We provide free evidence and literature searches, using our expertise to help you save time and ensure you have the information you need. To request a search, you can fill out the online form or

Laptops

The library has laptops that you can borrow for educational purposes, as well as headsets you can use in the library to complete your e-learning.

An NHS OpenAthens account provides the key to accessing all the online library resources. This single log on will give you access to ebooks, ejournals, BMJ Best Practice, UpToDate, and more! Register for an account - making sure to put your organisation as East Cheshire NHS Trust - or access the library guide at the links above.

"The literature search was used to help us design a care pathway based on evidence re current best practice. For example, interventions were included on the care pathway and staff specifically trained in approaches as they had been shown in the literature to be more effective than what we were currently doing."

Inter-library requests

If a book or journal article isn't available via our library holdings, we can usually obtains items for you on inter-library loan. Just contact us with the details and we'll search our library partners. You can email us on:ecn-tr.stafflibrary@nhs.netArticles we can usually provide within a few hours (during staffed hours), and books within a few days.

BMJ Best Practice is an evidence-based clinical decision support tool. It has thousands of clinical guidelines, patient info leaflets, prescription guidance, and a comorbidities manager. Log in with your OpenAthens account at the link above, or access the library guide.

Search the library catalogue to see which books, e-books and educational games are available to borrow. Log in to your account to view and renew your loans.

The LE&D Hub has study spaces, drop-in computers, our physical book stock, and is used for teaching. The Hub has a printer - you'll need your Windows login details to print. The Hub is open 24/7 via swipe access and is staffed Monday to Friday 8:30am - 4:30pm.

Databases

We have access to the key evidence databases including Medline, CINHAL, Embase, Emcare, and HMIC. These can all be accessed using your OpenAthens login.Find out more on how to access the different databases at the link below.

Log in to the NHS Knowledge & Library Hub with your OpenAthens account to search local and national content. Useful for a quick, easy search, with options for more in-depth searches. Search the hub or access the guide at the links above.

UpToDate is another evidence-based clinical decision support tool with over 11,000 clinical topics, as well as medical calculators, patient info topics, and summaries of research. To register for an account, you must log in on a trust PC connected to the network - come in to the LE&D Hub or access the guide linked above for help.

Install Nomad

Access Guide

You can access our ejournals through BrowZine by logging in with your OpenAthens account. You can use BrowZine online or download the app. LibKey Nomad is a browser extension that provides quick, easy access to full-text content. Once installed, Nomad will automatically bring up a button to access the full-text or to request the article, regardless of where you search for articles.

The library provides access to PCs and headsets that you can use to complete your mandatory e-learning. Library staff can help with some e-learning queries, but for more in depth queries please contact ecn-tr.trainingadmin@nhs.net.
