Welcome!
In this course, we will learn: What AI is, how it works, and how it can be used in our daily lives.
What is artificial intelligence?
Imagine AI as a smart helper that lives in your computer or phone. This helper can learn and assist with tasks, making things faster and easier for you.
You might already use AI every day without realising it. For example, when you type a message on your phone and it suggests the next words for you, that's AI helping out. AI is all about making everyday tasks simpler and more efficient.
So, how does AI work?
AI learns from data. It uses this data to make decisions or predict things. Let's take a look at an example on the next page.
Cat example
Imagine you want to teach a computer to recognise a cat. First, you show the computer many pictures of cats. The computer looks at these pictures and learns what a cat looks like by finding patterns. These patterns can be a cats ears, whiskers, eyes and so on.
Cat example
After seeing many examples, the AI gets better at recognising cats. When you show it a new picture, it can tell if there's a cat in it. This is how AI learns from data to make decisions or predictions.
It's not just identifying cats
AI is able to learn just about anything. - Like cooking a new recipe
- Read a book to give you the summary
- help you know when to water your plants
- find the fastest way for you to get to the shops and so much more!
But it all starts with us giving AI data to learn so it can help us do what we ask of it.
What are the everyday uses of AI?
Everyday uses of AI
AI is part of our daily lives in many ways. For example, virtual assistants like Siri can help us with tasks. AI also recommends products when we shop online and helps us find the best routes with navigation apps.
Meet Reena
She uses Siri, her voice assistant to help her find Vietnamese food recipes to cook for her family because they love Vietnamese food.
Meet Luciana
She uses an AI-powered app to track her spending and manage her budget when she gets paid at her job.
Meet Aneeta
When Aneeta shops online, AI helps her find the best prices for the products she wants to buy.
