Objetive
The student can interpret information in readings and audio to respond to specific details, make inferences about them, give their point of view, and express their opinion orally and in writing with interest and respect by the common framework of reference for languages.
PRELIMINARY ENGLISH TEST
PET
- The Preliminary English Test is an intermediate level certificate that belongs to the Cambridge English family of Exams.
- It corresponds to level B1 of the Common European Framework and assesses the candidate's knowledge of English in typical day-to-day situations.
- To obtain the Cambridge PET certificate, you must demonstrate that you understand texts and conversations on topics related to work, school, tourism or other basic topics.
- It is important that you know how to express your opinion, your knowledge or your state of mind both in writing and verbally.
READING
PET
- The purpose of this section is to show you can read and understand the main points from signs, newspapers, and magazines.
- The B1 Preliminary Reading paper has six parts. There are 32 items and has a duration of 45 minutes. The Reading section is worth 25% of the total score for the exam.
How to prepare for B1 Preliminary Reading?
- Do more reading practice tests at B1 level.
- Read the instructions carefully before you start each section.
- Think about the timing - spend about 5 minutes on each part.
- Study vocabulary topics for B1.
- Study grammar at B1 level.
WRITING
PET
- In the writing section, you have to show you can use vocabulary and structure correctly.
- The B1 Preliminary Writing paper has two parts and a duration of 45 minutes.
- The Writing section is worth 25% of the total score for the exam:
- 0–5 marks are given for each of the following criteria: Content, communicative achievement, organization, language.
How to prepare for B1 Preliminary Writing?
- Read the instructions carefully before you start each section.
- Think about the timing. Spend 25 minutes on each part.
- Study vocabulary topics for B1.
- Study grammar at B1 level.
- Practise writing short texts, including emails
LISTENING
PET
- In the Listening section, you have to be able to follow and understand a range of spoken materials including announcements and discussions about everyday life.
- The B1 Preliminary Listening paper has four parts. There are 25 items and has a duration of 30 minutes.
- The Listening section is worth 25% of the total score for the exam and each of the 25 listening questions scores 1 mark.
How to prepare for B1 Preliminary Listening?
- Read the instructions carefully before you start each section.
- Read the questions before you listen. You will hear the audio twice.
- Listen. The more English you listen to the better your will do. Listen to the radio, English language TV, podcasts, etc.
SPEAKING
PET
- You have to show how good your spoken English is as you take part in the conversation by asking/answering questions and talking, for example, about your likes and dislikes.
- This section has four parts and a duration of approximately 12–17 minutes for each pair of candidates.
- The Speaking section is worth 25% of the total score for the exam.
How to prepare for B1 Preliminary Speaking?
- Read about the format of this section.
- Read the instructions carefully before you start each section.
- Speak as much as you can, with your friends, family and classmates.
- Practise looking at photographs and speaking about them.

TOEICThe TOEIC (Test of English for International Communication) is a standardized English test oriented towards professionals and companies. The TOEIC is actually two separate tests, one which tests the receptive English skills (reading and listening) and one which tests the productive English skills (speaking and writing). Students can choose to take both TOEIC tests, or just one of the two, depending on their needs.
The Preliminary English Test had 3 parts originally, but after the changes in 2020, it is made of four parts now. 1.-Reading 25% 2.-Writing 25% 3.-Listening 25% 4.-Speaking 25%
