Can fish sing?
They denounce water pollution, as they gills get blocked by the waste : therefore they can no longer hum.
They can not be humming fish, if they can not hum.

These trees denounce the main environmental cause of the story : Deforestation. Indeed, the Once-ler cuts all trees until they are gone.

These bears denounce deforestation, as a result of this is a lack of natural foods for the local animals. The bar-ba-loots can no longer eat.
