BIOGRAPHY

“What’s one song you listen to that reminds you of me? What is the song you would choose to introduce me to someone who had never met me?” The songs collected for this playlist were surprising and familiar. A mix of the person I portray and the memories I created with friends and family.

When I think of who I am and what brings me joy - I think of music. Its rhythm is my culture, the lyrics, my poetry, the chords, my escape, and the songs make up the history of who I am. In creating this piece, I was inspired by the ways in which Gholdy Muhammad created layered playlists to add texture and voice to her work. Similarly, I wanted to create a playlist that Captured the various intersections of my identity and helped to add texture to the teacher I so often introduce myself as.
