FUN FACTS ABOUT MUSCLES

4

Is the brain a muscle?

5

No. The brain is not a muscle; it is an organ. It is mostly made of fat and water and weighs about 3 pounds when it reaches its full size.

6

Muscles can only pull; they cannot push. They enable all movement in the body, whether voluntary (you are in control) or involuntary (you are not in control).

7

8

Cardiac (kar-dee-ak) muscle is found only in the heart. Is this a voluntary muscle or an involuntary muscle?

9

Smooth muscles are involuntary. They line the blood vessels and organs, such as the lungs, stomach, and kidneys.

10

Skeletal muscles are attached to bones and allow voluntary movement. There are over 600 skeletal muscles in the human body.
