Typography Hierarchy

Font Weight

Heading

  • Use bold typeface weight for heading and subheading
  • Use regular or thin weights for body text
  • Should be the most visually stimulating element of your design
  • Use large and bold typefaces to make the viewer stop and read the information in your design

Typeface

  • Use readability focused font for the body text
  • Use bold and decorative fonts for prominent elements of your text that is focused on grabbing viewer attention

When styling a header, you can incorporate iconography into your typography to bring additional interest.

Repetitive

Subheading

  • Use of typeface, font size, weight is repeated throughout design to maintain continuity
  • Visible and stand out from the body text, but still making the visual differentiation with the main header

  • Clear visual differentiation
  • Use a font with good readability
  • Visually smaller in comparison to heading and subheading
Layout

Position

Whitespace

  • Use of whitespace improves comprehension and readability for the viewer
  • Elements are oraganized and creates a focal point to the most important information
  • Information is organized across your design layout depending on the importance
  • Margins equally spaced away from the edge with elements not overlapping set margins
  • Elements evenly placed in proximity to each other and proportionate in size
Mechanics

Before export, spellcheck with no misspellings or grammatical errors

Compliance

  • Recognize trigger terms that require disclaimers
    • Ohio requires disclaimer font to be 10pt and in Times New Roman
  • Loan Officer and/or cobrand info is correct
  • Includes equal housing/NMLS logo and appropriate state and/or program disclaimer(s)
  • Preapproval/preapproved (one word)
  • Homeowner/homeowners (one word)
  • Home buying/Home buyers (two word)
  • Principal (not principle)
