In order to achieve the main academic objective of this Project, which is for students to be safe on their way to and from school, they must first learn take care of themselves, observe and make quick decisions about how to act in a situation where they could be in danger. In this case, IN A REAL APPLIED PROJECT, many other school subjects could participate.

The time considered for the duration of the English Progressions included on this Project, is 24 Hrs.-2 months.

OBJECTIVES and SCOPE

OBJECTIVES

  • Reduce the insecurity level in the area close to CONALEP 035.
  • Help students, their families and school neighbors feel safer.
  • Guide our students to learn to take care of themselves.
  • Use English to make them learn to express their opinions on the situation.

Timeframe:Two months. It will be checked and see if permanent. It will surely need changes.

Brainstorm about proposals. RESPONSIBLE: Teachers

WEEKS 1 & 2-Phase 1

Sensibilization of Situation to all School Community and Neighbors. RESPONSIBLE:Psychollogy Dept and Teachers

Meetings with School (Personnel, students, Parents), Community, Government Representatives. Presentation of the problem. RESPONSIBLE: Principal & Admin.

IImmediate Actions: City Hall Petitions: Police Patrols, driving around the school surrounding streets and electrification of the streets. RES´PONSIBLE: Principal and Committee

Joining the Neighbors Commettee. RESPONSIBLE: Principal, Admin., Teachers

Students make posters and read about safe cities. RESPONSIBLE; English Teachers

Workshops about emotional issues. RESPONSIBLE: Socioemotional Class Teachers.

Committees to check on streets Illumination and Police Patrol rounds. RESPONSIBLE: The whole Board

Conferences, chats with students on how to keep themselves safe while walking to/from school. RESPONSIBLE:Psychology Dep. and Teachers

Student Presentation of Topics related to caring about the well-being of others, as well. RESPONSIBLE; Communication Teachers

Application of surveys to sts and community to see if the Project is working. RESPONSIBLE: Teachers and Admin.

Installation of street cameras is suggested. RESPONSIBLE:Principal and Admin.

With all the data gathered, shall we continue with the Project? Extend it? Any Changes? RESPONSIBLE; The whole board, ALL PARTICIPANTS.

There is no doubt that we could improve SO MUCH, ANY environment, but, in my opinion, there are two important things that are needed: WE MUST CARE and HAVE THE WILL to make changes.
