Edgar Allen Poe shows sympathy for the romatic movement, which was at it's height in Europe when he was writing, in the early nineteeth century. The romantics explored themes of love and death, often with an intense intrest in human psychology, For Poe, the darkestaspects of the mind and heart were most revealing of what it means to be human.
