First-year class (lower secondary) suburban school in a multicultural context

FEDERICO: HOW TO GET ALONG...

After a couple of months of observation, the teacher proposes:

a contract with clear and specific rights and duties

It is built on MUTUAL TRUST.

It gives the student the chance to choose WHAT AND HOW

but with RESPONSIBILITY

Some common strategies:

  • Avoid using PURE BLACK TEXT on a PURE WHITE BACKGROUND.
  • Avoid using CAPITAL LETTERS.
  • prefer using dyslexia-friendly fonts (12-14 point size)
and a larger line spacing.

PRE-REQUISITES

GENERAL AND SPECIFIC AIMS

At the end of the learning unit the students will be able to: interact with each other ASKING QUESTIONS and GIVING ANSWERS, using properly:
  • SCHOOL OBJECTS vocabulary and COLOUR NAMES
  • the present of the verb "BE" (in the affermative, negative and interrogative form)
  • the question word "what"
  • DEMONSTRATIVE adjectives and pronouns
The planned activities are aimed to STIMULATE the following SOFT SKILLS: Communication, creativity, public speaking, adaptability, teamwork.

4 LESSONs (ABOUT 45 MINUTES EACH):

1 lesson: reviSING VOCABULARY

Federico (tech-genius), Luna (map genius) and Matilde (good at English)will go to the tech room with the SUPPORT TEACHER and other three classmates for a ......

they will be divided into 2 groups of 3 students.Each group will create a "kahoot":
  • one will be on SCHOOL OBJECTS
  • the other on COLOUR NAMES

The English teacher will work with the other students in the classroom. The students will be divided into 5 groups of 3 people each.

At home students will REVISE demonstrative ADJECTIVES and PRONOUNS and PRACTISE QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS using them with the present of the verb "be" and the revised vocabulary..The teacher will ask them to take some personal school objects to school for the next class.

4 lesson: SPEAKING ACTIVITY

The students will be divided into 6 TEAMS of 3/4 people each.The TEAMS will COMPETE, ASKING their opponents QUESTIONS about their REAL OBJECTS and ANSWERING in their turn.
