We are going to be writing a letter to Jack, helping him decide whether or not to go up the beanstalk.
Some questions to consider first ...

Teach

Paired Discussion.
What do you already know about giants from other books you have read? Do you believe the giant's words? If the letter was sent to you, would you go up the beanstalk? Why? Do you think Jack should go up the beanstalk? What reasons are there for Jack to not go up the beanstalk?

Teach

Drama Opportunity - Conscience Alley
Form two lines, with a space (alley) between. On one side are those who believe that Jack SHOULD go up the beanstalk. On the other side are those who believe that he SHOULD NOT go up the beanstalk. The teacher is to walk slowly down the alley, and when they pass a child, that child is to give their reason for (or against) the climb. The teacher should then decide what they would do - based on the arguments they have heard.

Teach

Your letter to Jack is going to be persuading him to climb the beanstalk.
Now fill in the Gathering Ideas sheet.
