OBJECTIVE AND SCOPE 2

OPERATIONAL PLAN 4

The objective could be reached once students finish their fourth semester, since only then they will have learnt what it takes to make this project work. Every semester from the first one to the fourth one will contribute with something useful to reach the goal. This project will consider a transversal approach since it will be linked with other Areas of Knowledge such as Digital Culture, Training Areas and socioemotional areas as well.

Every single learning progression will contribute with the purpose, since all the tenses, vocabulary and activities have to do with each other. To be able to describe our history, how things have changed, our daily activities, events that are happening now, etc. students must be able to master most of these topics in order to provide a good touristic service and/or product.

Tehuacán Puebla used to be a touristic place, many people used to visit the city among other activities to heal certain illnesses through its magic springs and healing water, or at least that’s what people believe back then. We had one of the most luxurious and modern hotels in Latin America “Peñafiel hotel”, many famous national and international actors and politicians came to stay in this place and took advantage of the weather and our healing water. Today that magic essence of the city is gone, but we still have the springs, the soda factory (Peñafiel), the wonderful weather, archeological sites, historical sites, etc. but what we don’t have any more is the tourism. I strongly believe that Tehuacán can become again that famous city many people used to visit back in those years.

The objective is to prepare students to become bilingual people or at least to reach a decent level of English in order to provide touristic services to either national or international visitors. The scope could start being local and it could be performed in high seasons, especially holy week and summer time. This activity could remain all year round taking into account what I mentioned before.

STEP ONE. The teacher must implement the active learning method in class to make sure the four linguistic skills are taken into consideration and a formative assessment. STEP TWO. Since I am the only English teacher in the school, I will be the responsible to guarantee that my students (at least most of them) get a satisfactory level so they can perform the activity without any problems. STEP THREE. We must reach an agreement with local authorities so our students get the chance to contribute with the Ministry of Tourism to perform such activities related to local and international tourists, especially international so they can practice and improve their level of English. STEP FOUR. Continue working on the same idea with the following generations, so we can make sure this flow of people keep coming to our city to visit our touristic sites, enjoy the weather and try our local gastronomy.

A survey was performed to learn about our students’ context, regarding family context, educational background, parents’ occupation or profession statistics, monthly income, among other aspects. These results could be used as a reference to justify the need of helping students improve their language skills to find other working options within the city, they live in trying to contribute with this issue.
