Purpose/Subject What are the ad's overall goals? 1. The overall goals of this advertisement are to get the audience to think that the ketchup is made from real tomatoes that are grown by them. Audience What inferences can you make about the audience of the magazine from the ad? 1. The audience of this add is most likily Americans as we use ketchup with many different fast food options. What values does the ad appeal to? How does the ad convey these values? 2. The add appeals to the values of home grown and helath. The add conveys this by showing real tomatoes making up a ketchup bottle. This would make people think the ketchup is healthier than it is. Does the ad appropriately target the magazine’s intended readers? Why or why not? This add is not in a magazine, but I still think it reaches it's intended audience. The intended audience is American's and generally people in America want to eat food that tastes good but they feel is healthy and this add targets that audience. Producers Who made the ad? The add was made by Heinz. This is a brand that makes sauces. Often these sauces aren't made the healthiest and contain more sugar than one would expect. Appeals What is the primary appeal? The primary appeal of this ad is logos. They want people to make the logical connection between locally grown healthy foods like tomatoes and their ketchup. Visual Rhetoric* How does the ad represent itself visually? The ad represents itself as a healthy option for ketchup. 1. This does reach their intednded audience. How do the fonts work in the ad? Consider size, type, placement, style (bolding italicizing, underlying, shadowing, etc.), and color. 2. The fonts in the add are just big blocky letters. These work to catch the viewers eye and make them want to read the ad as it is short and easy to read. What colors are in play? 3. The main colors in play are red and white. They are both very bold in their color and are used to represent the colors of the Heinz company. The image: what images in the ad are striking? The main image of the ad is the ketchup bottle made of tomatoes. It is directly in the foreground to grab the readers attention towards the image. How does the entire composition work together? The composition works very well together. It creates a very easy to read and understand add that can reach their intended audience. The colors grab the eye and then with such little words it is very easy for the viewer or reader to comprehend the whole add.
