ACUTE CORONARY SYNDROME

Acute coronary syndrome is used to describe conditions related to sudden and reduced blood flow to the heart. Conditions include heart attack and unstable angina. Symptoms - Chest pain/discomfort - Pain that spreads from chest to other part of the body - Nausea - Indigestion - Shortness of breath (dyspnea) - Sudden sweating - Rapid heartrate - Light headedness or dizzy - Fainting - Unusual fatigue. Chest pain/discomfort is the most common but symptoms vary on age, sex, and other medical conditions.

ACUTE CORONARY SYNDROME

Causes Results from buildup of fatty deposits on the walls of blood vessels that deliver blood, oxygen, and nutrients of the heart muscles. Fatty deposits (plaque) The blood vessels that supply the heart are known as coronary arteries. When these fatty deposits rupture or split a blood clot is formed and blocks the blood flow to the heart's muscles. When the oxygen supply is too low the cells in the heart can die. Dead cells can result in damage to the muscle tissues aka heart attack. But even with no cell death, the oxygen drop can result in heart muscles that don't work the way they are suppose to. This may be short-term or permanent when acute coronary syndrome doesn't result in the cell death (unstable angina).

AORTIC ANEURISM

An aortic aneurysm is a bulge that occurs in the wall of the aorta. The aorta carries blood from the heart to the body. Aortic aneurysms can occur anywhere in the aorta. They may be tube shaped or round.- Abdominal aortic aneurysm. An abdominal aortic aneurysm occurs along the part of the aorta that passes through the belly area. - Thoracic aortic aneurysm. A thoracic aortic aneurysm occurs along the part of the aorta that passes through the chest cavity. Some people may have both types of aortic aneurysms. Having an aortic aneurysm increases the risk of developing a tear in the inner layer of the wall of the aorta. This tear is called an aortic dissection.

AORTIC DISSECTION

Aortic dissection is a serious condition that tears occurs in the inner layer of the aorta. Blood then rushes through the tear causing the inner and middle layers of the aorta to split. If the blood goes through the outside aortic wall it will often become deadly.Symptoms- Sudden severe chest or upper back pain - Sudden severe stomach pain - Loss of consciousness - Shortness of breath - Weak pulse - Leg pain - Difficulty walking - Symptoms similar to those of a stroke, including sudden vision problems, difficulty speaking, and weakness or loss of movement (paralysis) on one side of your body

HEART FAILURE

Heart failure occurs when the heart doesn't pump blood as it should. When this occurs the blood backs up and fluid can build up in the lungs causing shortness of breath. Certain heart conditions leave the heart weak and/or stiff to properly fill and pump blood. These conditions narrow the arteries in the heart and high blood pressure. Heart failure can be life-threatening and people with heart failure may have severe symptoms. Heart failure is sometimes called congestive heart failure.

HEART FAILURE

Symptoms- Shortness of breath with activity or when lying down. - Fatigue and weakness. - Swelling in the legs, ankles and feet. - Rapid or irregular heartbeat. - Reduced ability to exercise. - Wheezing. - A cough that doesn't go away or a cough that brings up white or pink mucus with spots of blood. - Swelling of the belly area. - Very rapid weight gain from fluid buildup. - Nausea and lack of appetite. - Difficulty concentrating or decreased alertness. - Chest pain if heart failure is caused by a heart attack.
