How does colonization affect modern independent countries that used to be colonies?

It left the independent nation with absent preparation to be functional in the new globalization sytem, and vulnerable to the influence of other powerful countries. It is also manifested in the way the country develops in the economic and political field.

Cuba History in 5 Minutes

Campbell et al. (2010), stipulates that “Neo-colonialism refers to the involvement of more powerful states in the domestic affairs of less powerful ones” (p. 38).

Neo-Colonialism

It is usually marked by the export of primary resources from the less developed country to the most developed one, also the importation of manufacturated products. There is a control of the trade agreements, operations of trasnationals and investments.

Artificial States

Megan Caldwell stipulates that artifitial States are states which "normally led to the nation’s entire infrastructure — roads, rail lines, and lines of communication — to be dedicated to the extraction of resources from the nation into the hands of the colonizer which then limited the formerly colonized nation’s ability to stabilize their own economy and feed their own population" (Campbell, et al., 2010, p. 37) In a few words, they are nations that were meant to be economic resources for another country, furthermore it doesn't have a political disposition or economics activities to improve by their own.
