What'sComing?

Windows Hello is a biometric authentication feature integrated into Windows 11. It enables you to connect to devices, applications and online services via more secure, personal methods such as facial recognition, fingerprints or a PIN code.

What's init for me?

The use of Windows Hello ensures a fast and frictionless connection, making your day-to-day tasks run more smoothly! This feature also enhances the security of your environment by reducing the risk of compromise associated with traditional passwords, thanks to biometric authentication.

What's New?

What's in it for me?

You can now capture your entire screen, a specific window, or a more restricted portion in a simplified way. Once captured, you can add annotations, drawings, text, and highlighting directly in the tool, without having to use third-party applications, saving you time and efficiency.

You can access this feature on your Screenshot tool icon directly from the Taskbar or by typing 'Screenshot tool' in your search bar.

SNAP Layouts

Where can I access this feature?

What's New?

Snap Layouts let you choose how to display multiple windows on one screen with various layout options. Save your layouts and access them from the app taskbar icons. Unlike Windows 10, where you had to arrange windows manually, the new Snap Layout feature automatically arranges your open windows, making it more efficient and saving you time.

What's in it for me?

You can find this feature by hovering the mouse over the top right of the window you want to resize or reorder.

voice access

What's New?

Voice Access is a new feature that allows you to control your PC and write text using your voice. You can open and change applications, browse the web, dictate emails, and more using voice commands. Voice Access uses your computer's voice recognition to accurately recognize speech and works without an Internet connection.

What's in it for me?

You can access this feature in your Accessibility settings under "Speech" or by typing "Voice Access" in your search bar.

Voice Access allows you to perform various actions, including generating written transcriptions of your oral discussions, ideal for creating meeting minutes more quickly. It also enhances accessibility for people with reduced mobility.

TEAMS APP

Where can I access this feature?

What's New?

Microsoft has enhanced Teams' functions, including videoconferencing. Meeting transcriptions are now more reliable, and translation into other languages is greatly improved. Additionally, you can access mute and unmute buttons and share a window directly from the Windows 11 taskbar, making it more convenient during regular Teams meetings.

What's in it for me?

You can find this feature by clicking on the "Meet" button accessible from the Teams icon directly on the taskbar. With Windows 11, you'll find a microphone icon automatically added to your taskbar when you're actively in a call.

Enhanced transcription provides direct access to voice or written files, facilitating the writing of meeting minutes and saving you time. Quick access to mute, unmute, and window-sharing buttons helps you manage calls efficiently, avoiding interruptions and maintaining professionalism.

In Windows 11, it is replaced by a list of app icons. You can easily pin your app to the Start menu. (See the section in this Windows 11 Guide)

Improved light & dark mode

What's New?

Choose your preferred Light or Dark mode. The Light & Dark modes have improved from the Windows 10 versions, with a more subtle use of transparency, animations and clean icon designs.

What's in it for me?

The design is cleaner on the eyes, making it easier to read the computer screen. Dark mode has specific benefits such as reduced eye strain, improved battery life, and enhanced focus and contrast.

You can find this feature from the 'Personalization'>'Colors' tab of the settings.

What's New?

With Windows 11 upgrade, you can customise new wallpapers, themes, and colors. The taskbar (colors, location, app pins, etc.), the system tray clock, and other elements, are easily customisable to suit your style .

What's in it for me?

Personalizing your workspace by creating an environment that reflects your style contributes to your overall day-to-day well-being, making your work experience more enjoyable and tailored to your preferences.

Windows Explorer

What's New?

A couple of Windows Explorer functions have been enhanced, such as gallery display and access to more file details. Also, when you right-click on a file, you can access the new "toolbar shortcut", which displays editing icons (cut, copy, rename, etc.).

What's in it for me?

You can find these features directly by browsing the file explorer.

The new Gallery in the Windows Explorer is a convenient way to access and manage your photo collection with a timeline.These new features will help you optimize your searches for greater efficiency.

Improved search

What's New?

Windows 11 has significantly improved the search function, including Web search and Cloud search activation. Now integrated with Microsoft 365, it enables rapid retrieval of documents, emails, and information shared across the organisation.

What's in it for me?

With integrated Web search, you can now search the internet directly from the search bar, delivering more comprehensive and relevant results. By linking your Microsoft account, you gain access to your files and documents from any connected device. Cloud search enhances the speed and accuracy of your search results.

For example, the quick settings menu, that you can find by clicking on the wifi icon, has been redesigned.

To do this, select an application icon from the Start menu, drag it and hover over another application icon until a folder is created.

To access all installed applications, click on the 'All applications' button at the top right of the pinned applications section.

CLOCK APP - FOCUS SESSION

The Clock app now includes Focus Sessions, allowing users to limit or disable notifications and interruptions during specific periods.

What's in it for me?

By blocking distractions and preventing unwanted notifications, this feature helps you concentrate on your tasks without interruption. Define specific rules and schedules to activate/deactivate notifications, enabling you to work faster and more efficiently.

You can access this feature from your Clock app or from the 'System' tab of the settings and then select 'Focus assist'.

FILE EXPLORER

Where can I access this feature?

What's New?

Windows 11 introduces improved tab management in File Explorer and integrated browsers. File Explorer now integrates tabs, allowing you to open multiple folders in a single window, similar to a web browser.

What's in it for me?

Multiple folder tabs in one window provide a better overview of your workspace and improve the speed of information retrieval, helping you manage daily tasks more efficiently.

You can access this feature from the File Explorer tab by clicking on the "+" button to add new tabs.

NOTEPAD

Where can I access this feature?

What's New?

Notepad has been enhanced with tabs and automatic backups, allowing you to close it anytime without losing progress. It will automatically restore previously opened tabs, unsaved changes, and content.

What's in it for me?

You can access this feature on your Notepad icon directly from the taskbar or by typing “Notepad” in your search bar.

The improvements make it easier to navigate and organize your tabs, helping you manage your notes more effectively.

Even if it is quick, we recommend you upgrade your computer during lunch time or at the end of your working day.

It depends on the internet connection you use. Average time is 15/20 minutes.

Enhanced security

Where can I access this feature?

What's New?

Windows 11 is twice as resistant to malware and predicted to be the most secure version yet. It allows you to create an access key to log in faster and more securely.

What's in it for me?

Enhanced data protection, reduced downtime, improved user confidence, and better performance and reliability.

You can just type « virus » in the Search bar to find the « virus & threat protection ».

This icon means that updates are pending and you have to reboot your computer. Windows 11 gives you an estimated duration for the update.

Step 1:

Once your computer is ready to upgrade, all you will need to do is reboot! Depending on what laptop model you have, you will receive either a pop up message asking you to pick a time to reboot, or you will notice an orange dot on your start-up menu to let you know to reboot.

Once you select restart now or update and restart, the upgrade will begin, this can take anything from 10 - 45 mins depending on device and WIFI connection.

Please make sure you have set aside the time or begin this after your working day.

Don’t worry. All computers will not receive the upgrade at the same time. Be patient, the IT team follows closely the remaining computers to upgrade.

Optimised performance

Where can I access this feature?

What's New?

Windows 11 updates are 40% smaller and more efficient, improving energy use and battery life. It also includes an option to automatically adjust screen brightness based on your environment to reduce power consumption. Additionally, File Explorer has been optimised, making file searches quicker and more efficient.

What's in it for me?

You can find this feature from the "System" tab of the settings. Then select "Power & Battery" or "Storage" according to what you want to change.

Windows 11 is faster and more energy-efficient, enhancing your overall user experience. Applications launch quicker, response times are shorter, and your experience feels smoother. You'll appreciate the increased responsiveness.
