Educational Background
After graduating high school, I went straight to CSU Stanislaus to pursue a career in education. In 2018, I graduated with a Bachelors Degree in Mathematics with SMPP.
- After graduation, I began the credential program at CSU Stanislaus
- I completed my student-teaching with an 8th math class at my former middle school
- I was hired and placed at Hanshaw Middle School with Modesto City Schools and have been teaching there for the past 5 years!
Hi! I'm ShiAnn Anderson
I have taught 7th grade math my first two years and the past 3 years I taught 8th graders. I have put a lot of work into researching best grading practices to support student learning. I think it is important that their grade represents their learning, so they can reflect and develop a growth mindset.
I grew up playing all the sports. I have always been a competitive person and I love to stay active. The past year, I have picked up pickleball and it is something my family loves to play. We do not follow all the rules, and we play just for fun. But I want to challenge myself and maybe sign up for a tournament or league soon!
I am in the Master's Program for Curriculum and Instruction. I am nearly half way done!
The courses I have taken so far:
- Servant Leadership
- Character Education
- Brain-Based Teaching and Learning
- Curriculum Design and Assessment
Recently, I served as juror on a 3-week murder trial. The process was an incredible experience and I love sharing it with my students. I found jury selection to be the most interesting part. The system relies on collaboration and decision-making skills.
AVID
Before teaching at the middle school, I had never heard of the AVID Program. The first assignment our AVID students do is "Teacher Introductions" where they have to introduce themselves to each of their teachers. Having little 7th graders come up and shake my hand and tell me they were an AVID student inspired me to want to be an AVID Educator.
- 5 AVID Summer Institutes
- 2 years, 4 sections of AVID 7
I became a Magic Key Holder this year! I have a annul pass to Disneyland and California Adventures. Disneyland is a always a magically experience and has been a place for my family to bond and make the best memories. I prefer to spend more time on the California Adventures side, but I always have to ride the Jungle Cruise for a good laugh.
"New" School
One of our feeder schools went K-8 so my school experienced a drop in enrollment numbers, and unfortunately the math department was over staffed. So I had to put in a transfer.
- I will be returning to my High School!
- I will be teaching Algebra 1
- Although this is not what I expected or anticipated, I am excited to use this opportunity to grow as an educator.
