Advance Directive
An advance directive outlines an individual's preferences for medical treatment. This includes living wills, which specify the types of medical interventions a person would or would not like to receive, and durable power of attorney for healthcare, which allows individuals to designate someone to make healthcare decisions on their behalf if they become unable to do so.
Healthcare Power of Attorney (HCPA)
A Healthcare Power of Attorney is a legal document that allows individuals to designate a trusted individual, often a family member or close friend, to make healthcare decisions on their behalf if they become unable to do so. This can include decisions about medical treatments, procedures, and end-of-life care.
Living Will
A living will is a legal document that outlines an individual's preferences regarding medical treatment in the event they become unable to communicate their wishes. This document allows students to specify their preferences for medical interventions, such as resuscitation, life-sustaining treatments, and organ donation.
Advance Instruction for Mental Health Treatment
An advance instruction for mental health treatment, also known as a psychiatric advance directive (PAD), is a legal document that allows individuals to express their preferences for mental health care. This document typically includes information about preferred medications, therapeutic approaches, and individuals authorized to make decisions on their behalf if they are unable to do so.
