Less Homework Makes Kids More Active, Says Study
Glossary Hunt
A new study has found that reducing the amount of homework given to children can make them more active and help them get to bed earlier.
But, there’s a catch.
There also have to be strict limits on screen time.
The research was carried out by scientists from Bristol University. They studied the data from more than 7000 children in China.
Why China? Since 2021, laws have been introduced to discourage sedentary behaviour in children. For example, online gaming companies have to limit the time children spend playing on them. There are also country-wide restrictions on the amount of homework that children are asked to do.
The scientists found that, after the rules were brought in, children aged 9 to 18 spent 45 minutes less each day being sedentary. They also went to bed earlier.
What do you think? Would you agree to less screen time if you also get less homework?
