CASTLES IN SPAIN

Welcome to Belmonte Castle

Belmonte Castle is a fortress that stands on the hill of San Cristóbal, on the outskirts of the village of Belmonte, in the southwest of the province of Cuenca (Spain). It was declared a Historic-Artistic Monument belonging to the National Artistic Treasure by decree of 3 June 1931. It is currently considered an Asset of Cultural Interest (BIC).

The castle was conceived as a fortress-palace, to satisfy the defensive needs of the Marquis of Villena, who wanted to prepare it to adapt it to the advance of the artillery.

Welcome to Lorca Castle

It is a fortress of Andalusian origin and is the best testimony to the frontier character of this land.

Situated on the top of a hill overlooking the entire town of Lorca (Murcia), it was built between the 9th and 15th centuries, and today it has become the main symbol of this town.

Due to its extension, 640 metres long and 120 metres at its widest point, it is one of the largest castles in Spain.

Thanks to its defensive structure, Lorca and the kingdom of Murcia were inaccessible to enemies during the Middle Ages.

Inside, the remains of the medieval Jewish quarter can be found under the Alfonsina Tower, and the impressive rectangular synagogue with a wooden roof.
