Introduction

In this presentation, we are going to see some education systems around the world and compare them to ours. Who knows what will we learn today?

First, let's see how do other countries deal with educating children and teenagers

Foreign countries

Let's look at the examples

Quality of infrastructure and companionship

In Mexico

In Venezuela

In France

Facilities are more or less the same quality than in Spain. On average, only hard-worker students help the rest of the class. Not a lot of students respect teachers in public schools.

Facilities are worse than in Spain. Classmates usually help each other and respect teachers. The even have a kind of friendship with them.

Infrastructure is slightly OK. Classmates are usually helpful for other classmates and generally respect teachers.

We can compare countries based on their quality of life features.

Let's look at the examples

Student Life

In Mexico

In Venezuela

In France

The mean of students' marks is about 6'5. It's not common at all for them to drop of school. The most important subjects are Maths, French, English and Science. Homework is not important.

Students' marks are usually low compared with Spain ones. It's not popular to drop of school. The most important subjects are the same as here. Homework is quite important.

On average, students are neither good or bad. They also often drop of school. The most important subjects are Maths, Spanish and English. Homework is important, but not as much as in Spain.

We can compare countries based on the student life, too.

Let's look at the examples

School year length and stages of education

In Mexico

In Venezuela

In France

School days last for 6h in secondary school. School years start on February and end on December. The different stages are: Kindergarten, Primary and Secondary.

School days' length depends on the day of the week. School years are different, as they have more chances to go on vacation on 2 week periods. The stages are: Kindergarten (N.O.), 3-6 yrs, Primary, College and Lycée.

School days are the same length as in Spain. The school year consists on a semester on high school. The stages are: Kindergarten, Elementary, Secondary and High School. The last two last for 3 years each. High school is not mandatory.

We can observe the discrepancies between school years and the stages of education

Let's look at the examples

Trips, Religion and Classroom

In Mexico

In Venezuela

In France

School trips aren't common at all. They're kind of a lottery. Religion is mandatory in school. ITC isn't used much in the classroom, which has a ration of 30 students per class.

There aren't lots of school trips in France. Religion is not an option in public schools. The usage of ITC is the same as in Spain. The ration of the classroom is about 28 students per class.

There are almost no school trips in Mexico. Religion is vocational. ITC isn't relevant in the classroom. There are about 15 students per class.

Lots of countries vary when talking about these three characteristics

Let's look at the examples

Extras

In Mexico

In Venezuela

In France

Final exams are quite important. The level of difficulty is very different with the one in Spain. Homework is important, but not as much as in here. Homeschooling is allowed, but it's not popular.

Exams are more important than projects. The schedule is the main difference between France and the rest of the countries, because of their school days' length. Teachers don't usually verify if homework has been done.

Homework is more relevant than exams (60% - 40%). Classes aren't "serious" in Mexico. The use of memory is outstandingly important. Homeschooling isn't allowed.

Finally, let's look at a bit of additional data in order to highlight differences between countries.

After all this information, we will finally compare these countries with Spain.

Comparing ourselves

Quality

Students' marks

Facilities are worse in Venezuela and Mexico. However, students usually cooperate in the 3 countries. In Mexico, teachers are your friends, in a way.

Contextualiza tu tema

Students in these 3 countries are usually worse in terms of marks. They also tend to drop of school more often.

What about Spain?

As we can see, there are some outstanding differences between these countries and Spain, but there are also lots of similarities. Let's highlight the main differences.

Others

Students' life

Religion is mandatory in Venezuela but not an option in France. The importance of homework also varies a lot. The ration in Mexico is the half than the Spain one.

Students have quite different school years and even days in France. In Venezuela, they can do homeschooling. Sadly, they don't usually go on school trips.

What have we learnt from all this?

Conclusion

What have we learnt?

We have found out how different and how similar some education systems when comparing them.

After all, only three countries have been analyzed. There's still room for lots of shocking education systems. However, the difference is clear: School years, stages of education, infrastructure, homework, Religion and students' relationships between each other vary vastly between countries. That means that we should expect differences when talking to a foreigner about those topics, but... Who knows! Maybe, in a different country, there isn't homework. We can only try to guess!

Thanks for watching!
