About this document

This document aims to:

  • give a transparent view of an onboarding journey for new joiners and their line managers; and
  • to provide a consistent approach to onboarding across the business.
This journey is based on onboarding research, feedback, and expertise in how people learn. It isn’t designed to be prescriptive and can be adapted to suit individual role and team priorities. For example, you may determine less or more time is needed for face-to-face meetings, based on discussions with an individual or their User Manual for Me. Managers onboarding clinicians: some colleagues, particularly those who work less than full-time, may have fewer regular work days on which to attend required training. Their onboarding schedule should be flexed so that they can attend the Risk training in their first/second week, if there's a suitable session. Please share this with your new joiner, along with a saved copy of their customised agenda, to support their onboarding journey. For the remaining days of onboarding, you'll continue to shadow live sessions in the morning, where possible or review videos, if not. It'll be important for you to make the most of shadowing opportunities by linking in with the clinicians, scoring jointly and having clinical discussions. When you feel comfortable, you can offer to write up parts of the assessment for the clinician that you are shadowing and seek feedback from them or a team manager.
