Family offices

Essentially a private wealth management advisory firm established by an ultra-high-net-worth (UHNW) family (i.e., > US$30 million) to oversee their financial and personal affairs. Their investment approach is often characterized by:

  • Long-term, multi-generational horizon.
  • Complexity and customization.
  • Integration of non-financial goals.
  • Control, privacy, and tax efficiency.
  • Given the long horizon and scale, often have higher allocations to illiquid alternative assets (private equity, venture capital, private credit, real assets) than traditional institutions
  • Family offices are seeking diversification benefits, potential illiquidity premiums, compound growth, and values-integration.
  • Their strategic asset allocation (SAA) needs to be robust enough to weather different economic regimes.
