How is it played
American football is a team sport played between two opposing teams of 11 players each, with the objective of advancing the ball down the field and scoring points by crossing the opponent's goal line or kicking the ball through the uprights. The game is played on a rectangular field, 100 yards long and 53 1/3 yards wide, with two teams taking turns possessing the ball and trying to score points
The basic rules of American football include:
- The offense tries to advance the ball down the field by running or passing, while the defense tries to stop the offense and regain possession of the ball.
- Each team has four downs (plays) to gain at least 10 yards. If they fail to gain 10 yards, possession of the ball is turned over to the other team.
- Scoring can be achieved by carrying the ball into the end zone (touchdown worth 6 points), kicking the ball through the uprights (field goal worth 3 points), or tackling the ball carrier in their own end zone (safety worth 2 points).
