Famous planes of the WW2 (1939-1945)

Planes already existed on the World War 1, but they were only for reconnaissance, so I will start talking about the World War 2.

I don't know to much about this decade in his history but I can name two very famous planes, the P-51 Mustang on the Air Force and the F4U Corsair on the NAVY. They were used in the korean war too!

The cold war (1946-1991)

This moment was very important for the aeronautical industry, because the planes were starting to have jet engines. Here born the most iconic fighter planes like the F-4 Phantom, the F-14 Tomcat, F-15 Eagle, F-16 Falcon and the F/A-18 Hornet (in service in the US and Spain).

The F-18 history in the Spanish Air Force

On the 1983, Spain bought this aircraft from the United States and it still in service. They are operated in diferent groups, called "Alas", each group operate in his respective air base. The F-18 groups are the Ala 12, Ala 15 and Ala 46.

Modern fighter jets (1997-2015)

In this moment of the history we have the most futuristic fighter jets, with the best radar, the best weapons and the best stealth capacity (invisible on the radar). Here we have the F-22 Raptor and the F-35 Lightning II.This last plane have 3 different variants that I will talk about, because they are so different from each other.

F-35C (Navy variant)

F-35B (Marine variant)

F-35A (Air Force variant)

This last variant is the variant made for the US Navy, so it's carrier capable (it can take off and land on an aircraft carrier), having a arresting hook on the back of the plane, a stronger landing gear and a longer wingspan to be better at gliding. This version is the biggest because it wings.

This variant is for something called V/TOL, as known as Vertical Take Off and Landing; and S/TOL, Short Take Off and Landing. It has a fan behind the cockpit and the engine can point down so it can redirect it thrust to the ground and take off vertically. Or it can point the engine into a diagonal angle and redirect it thrust down and back, so it can take off horizontally but faster than a normal plane.

This variant is the convencional one, I mean, it take off and land like a normal plane, and it was designed for the USAF (United States Air Force). It's the lightest and the smallest one. But it can withstand more G forces.
