What are relative pronouns and when to use them?
Relative pronouns are who, which, whose and where. They are pronouns that are used when we want to add important information about the subject or object of the sentence and are usually placed immediately after the noun to which they refer.
Ex: I am a person who is learning english
STRUCTURE
Sentence 1 + relative pronoun + sentence 2.
Ex: Lola found some information which was very interesting
WHO
When is who used?
Who is used to talk about people
EXEMPLES:
- I asked her who had told her the secret.
- The girl who he’s dancing with is his sister.
WHICH
When is which used?
Which is used to talk about things
EXEMPLES:
- Which one is yours: the blue or the red one?
- Which books are on the shelf?
WHOSE
When is whose used?
Whose is used to talk about possessions
EXEMPLES:
- Judges are people whose decisions are very important.
- Whose glasses are those?
WHERE
When is where used?
Where is used to talk about palace
EXEMPLES:
- A court is a place where lawyers.
- Where have I put my keys?
