ForestEcosystems

Listen to Caitie tell us about forest ecosystems.

Did you know that tree rings can predict climate change. The rings can be thick or thin depending on how many resources are in the ecosystem.

Turning Trees into Masterpieces

You will need a clipboard, a white piece of paper, and your pencil case.

Walk to Holiday Park with your class and find a quiet place to sit.

Draw what you see in the forest. Remember to include biotic and abiotic factors.

Freshwater Ecosystems

A pond is an example of a freshwater ecosystem. Listen to the story to learn about the biotic and abiotic factors in a pond.

Ponds provide a home for many different plants, animals, and insects!

Water Wonderland

Grab your nets and clear containers and take a walk to the pond with your class.

Fill your containers with water and use your net to see what you can find.

Share your discoveries with a friend and return your findings to the pond.

The Earth Book

Listen to The Earth Book by Todd Parr.

The Earth is calling and it is time to save our planet!

I love the Earth because...

Colour a coffee filter using blue and green washable markers.

Spray the coffee filter with water and let dry.

Glue it on black construction paper and write what you love about the Earth using a white crayon.

Make a Difference

Take a walk in your community and help clean-up the ecosystems.

Some students can collect garbage and others can collect recycling products.

When you are done, make sure you put the items in the correct bin.

Grow Your Own Change

Plant a school or community garden!

Prepare the garden beds by clearing old debris, loosening the soil, and adding organic matter.

Plant a variety of fruits, vegetables, herbs, flowers, shrubs, and traditional medicines.

Harvest the plants in the fall and share them with members in your community.

Show and present your poster to the class.

Find a place in the school to display your poster and inspire others.
