Getting Started

welcome to applied Building Science

Applied Building Science is an interdisciplinary field that integrates principles from various scientific disciplines to understand and improve buildings' performance, durability, comfort, and energy efficiency. It encompasses studying how buildings interact with their environment, how they are constructed, and how they function in terms of structural integrity, indoor air quality, thermal comfort, moisture control, and energy consumption.

Motheo Tjebane

Hello, students, and welcome to Applied Building Science. For this block, I, Motheo Tjebane, will be your instructor. I am a lecturer in the Department of Construction Management & Quantity Surveying.

Test Centre

Students who require the Test Centre to write tests, midterms, or quizzes MUST register online using the Student Counselling test/exam sign-up module, found here. Students must sign up for tests, midterms, or quizzes AT LEAST seven (7) days before the test date. Students must register for final exams by the registration deadline, typically two weeks before the final examination period starts. Student Counselling Services will notify students of the registration deadline date

Disability Support

Accommodating students with disabilities at MUT is a responsibility shared among various partners: the students themselves, Student Counselling staff, and faculty members. To ensure that disability-related concerns are properly addressed during this course, students with documented disabilities and who may require assistance participating in this class are encouraged to speak with me as soon as possible. Students who suspect they have a disability that may affect their participation in this course are advised to go to Student Counselling Services as soon as possible. Maintaining communication and working collaboratively with Student Counselling and faculty members will ensure you have the greatest chance of academic success

Student Counselling

Student counselling is a student support unit within the Student Affairs department at Manogsuthu University of Technology We believe in the innate potential of every MUT student, while also recognizing the importance of social and environmental support in helping students realize their full potential

Applied Building Science

The Applied Building Science module offers a comprehensive exploration of the fundamental principles and practical applications in the field of construction. This course is designed to provide students with a deep understanding of building science, including the study of sustainable construction materials, building physics, and structural principles. Through this module, students will learn to apply theoretical concepts to real-world construction scenarios, fostering skills essential for modern construction management and quantity surveying. By the end of this course, students will be equipped with the knowledge to analyse and implement sustainable and efficient building practices
