In recent decades, notable advancements have been made in the pursuit of gender equality, particularly in the redistribution of roles between men and women within both domestic and professional spheres. Despite these gains, there still exists a considerable distance to be covered in order to attain genuine parity.

Noteworthy milestones in the realm of gender equality include the attainment of financial independence by women. A hundred years in the past, women were precluded from applying for loans under their own identities. Presently, they have achieved financial autonomy. A salient example of this progress can be seen in the appointment of Gita Gopinath as the inaugural female Chief Economist of the International Monetary Fund in the year 2019.

Career opportunities for women have evolved in recent years. With progress in education, more than three-quarters of women continue their studies beyond secondary school. Not to mention the fact that there used to be professions that women couldn't do, but now they can, such as judge. In a landmark event, Sandra Day O'Connor became the first female Associate Justice of the US Supreme Court in 1981.

Advancements have also been noted in the sector of space exploration. A mere four decades ago, female astronauts were prohibited from participating in NASA missions. However, in 1995, Eileen Collins broke this barrier by becoming the first female pilot of a space shuttle, subsequently leading a shuttle mission in 1999.

For contemporary adolescents, the following measures are recommended in order to contribute to the ongoing struggle for gender equality: actively engaging with advocacy organizations such as 'Equality Now,' 'UN Women,' and 'Womankind Worldwide' which are dedicated to combating gender disparities; offering assistance at local women's shelters and support centers to aid those adversely impacted by gender inequality; educating themselves on women's rights and gender issues to become informed advocates for transformative change within their communities and beyond.

This work has shown that gender equality has improved a lot in recent years, but there is still room for improvement. With education, defending equality, teenagers can promote a more equal world.
