1. Hello.My name’s Juliya. I’d like to tell you about my native village of Matveevtsy. It is 18 km from the town of Volkovysk.

3. My village is big. There are more than 200 houses and about 500 people here. There is a shop, a hospital, a post office, a school with a large stadium and a museum, a club and an agricultural organiza-tion in Matveevtsy.

4. There are 9 streets in our village. Many of them were built after the accident at the Chernobyl nuclear power station3.

5. Near the village there is a river, two lakes, forests and fields. In summer you can fish, swim, pick mushrooms and berries, go for a picnic with your family and friends. In our place you can see such domestic animals and birds as horses, cows, sheep, goats, geese, hens, chickens, turkeys, pigs, dogs and cats.

6. There is also a bee-garden4 in our village. That's why we eat delicious honey every day. I love my small homeland, its people and nature. Come to my village. We'll have a great time together.

2. The name of the village comes from the name of the blacksmith1 Matvey, who lived and worked in the local forge2.
