What is it?
REPORTED SPEECH
iIt is used when we recount what somebody else said to us in the past.
EXAMPLE:
A: What did she say? B: She said that she loves movies.
STEP 1: CHANGE PRONOUNS
STEP 2: CHANGE ADVERBS
STEP 3: CHANGE MODAL VERBS
simple present
The statement stays in the original tense.
EXAMPLE:
A: I want to buy a new car. B: He tells me that he wants to buy a new car.
Simple continuous
The statement changes tense.
EXAMPLE:
A: I am cooking. B: She said that she was cooking.
Simple PERFECT
EXAMPLE:
A: I have seen that show before. B: He said that he had seen that movie before.
simple past
EXAMPLE:
A: I forgot to bring my lunch. B: He said that he forgot to bring his lunch. OR He said that he has forgotten his lunch.
past continuous
EXAMPLE:
A: We were looking for the restaurant. B: He said that they had been looking for the restaurant.
PAST PERFECT
EXAMPLE:
A: I had finished my homework before they arrived. B: She said that she had finished her homework before they arrived.
Simple future
EXAMPLE:
A: We will move to Japan. B: She said that they would move to Japan.

FUTURE CONTINUOUS
EXAMPLE:
A: I will be going out tonight. B: He said that he would be going out tonight.

Future Perfect
EXAMPLE:
A: I will have forgotten about it by tomorrow. B: She said that she would have forgotten about by tomorrow.

present perfect continuos
EXAMPLE:
A: I have been waiting for this day. B: He said that he had been waiting for that day.

past perfect continuos
EXAMPLE:
A: I had been swimming every day. B: She said that she had been swimming every day.

future perfect continuous
EXAMPLE:
A: By next year, I wil have been a teacher for two years. B: He said that by next year, he will have been a teacher for two years.
