FIRST DAYS

María Garcés

First day 03/04

We took our flight to Vantaa and the families were waiting us in the airport. This day we had our first impresions of our host families, that was really good.

second day 04/04

The next day we went on a school trip with some French exchange students. We had the luck that the French students explained to us the architecture of Helsinki.

third day 05/04

On the third day we spent the morning in the Nuuksio National Park, we ate sausages and some marshmallows. This day was freezing, but we had a great experience throwing snowballs, walking around the forest, and watching the snowy landscapes.

Finally, at the weekend, each student spent these days with their respective families. They had a great time and got to know their families and places in the city better.

First week

The school

This week, we started to go to school in The International School of Vantaa which has a lot of learning material that was very beneficial for us. They have different things that I liked a lot!

a Different subject

They have a different subject at school that I wasn't used to. The one that I really liked was called woodwork where students used creativity to make things out of wood, I made a dice! They even let me vacuum the pieces of wood that were left over.

On Tuesdays, we had a meeting with a Boy Scouts group that was from the school where this time we cooked some pizzas and had a great time!

Second week

Normally the four of us saw each other in the yard and at lunchtime that was the moments we had to talk and tell each other things that had happened or even talk about what we had next or what time we went out since each one had different schedules

week 15/19 of April

This week we continued the classes as one more. María and I learned to open an Animal. We also all learned to orient ourselves in the forest, which was an activity of the Boy Scouts. The four of us together made a presentation for the Spanish class about typical things from Spain, during the physical education classes the students had to prepare a dance as usual every year the students had to prepare an end of year dance and we had to dance different types of dances such as the Vals

Third week

School

This week we practice chemistry with practices. We made a ph detector and atoms. We had an excursion so one day we didn't have class.

Excursion

We went to a flamenco concert with the school. We ate there and we spent the rest of the day there. We ate a sandwich, juice and a banana that the school gave to all of us for free.

"Vappu is a very big party in Finland and we celebrated it with the Boy Scouts with a lot of food and typical drinks And making decoration

Last week

María Garcés

Last week

In this last week we enjoyed our last classes and said goodbye to our friends and teachers. Alicia and I performed a Spanish song in music class, and the Pablos created an atom in physics class. And our favourite moment of this week was Spanish class, where we played some games and sang a song.

‘VAPPU’

We were lucky enough to be at ‘Vappu’, a big party where the graduates celebrate their studies. On this day the graduates wear their graduation caps and some wear coloured overalls depending on the course they have studied. On the other hand, families and friends often have picnics and eat typical ‘Vappu’ food.

Last weekend

Last weekend we spent time with our families and gave them a little something to thank them for the month they hosted us. On the 5th of May we said goodbye to them at the airport and caught our flight to Madrid, Spain.

Personal experience

Alicia

I had a great time that month and I was very confident with the girl I was with. I was lucky to know their culture and religion. I was able to make many friends and live many unforgettable moments. I will never forget Pablo shouting the name of a friend we made there every time I saw him in the hallways, it is an unforgettable experience and I was able to enjoy it to the fullest.

María

I have very good memories of that month there, I had a very good relationship with my host family and especially with my host sister. One of the things that I enjoyed the most were the classes of music and Spanish, and my favourite moment of the day was when the four of us met in the dining room. I made a lot of friends and it was an unforgettable experience.

PABLO

April was a very good month for me, not only I went to another country, I also met people and enjoyed the family I had, I was very lucky with my family, they were there for everything I needed and thanks to them I lived things that I will never forget.

Pablo

This great experience has allowed me to grow personally and to learn a new and different culture, I met nice people and most importantly a great family that hosted me! My favorite part of this memorable trip was the first time that I saw snow, and when it was lunchtime I could eat with my friends.
