If you are interested in undertaking an apprenticeship, then it may be possible for your apprenticeship training provider to deliver Functional Skills training alongside the apprenticeship, depending upon the apprenticeship programme, level of qualification and entry criteria. Please contact Learning Services for more information.

Apprenticeships

In Functional Skills Maths, learners typically cover topics such as:

  • Numeracy: Basic arithmetic, fractions, percentages, decimals, and ratios.
  • Measurement: Understanding units of measurement, conversions, and practical applications.
  • Geometry: Shapes, angles, area, and volume.
  • Statistics: Data handling, interpreting graphs, and probability.
Functional Skills English covers skills such as:
  • Reading: Comprehension, understanding and analysing written texts.
  • Writing: Writing clearly and coherently, including formal letters, emails, and reports.
  • Speaking and Listening: Communicating effectively in different contexts, participating in discussions, and presenting information orally.
These qualifications are available at different levels (Entry Level, Level 1, and Level 2) to accommodate learners of varying abilities and experiences.

If you are interested in obtaining maths and English qualifications for your own personal development, you will therefore need to approach their college or training provider directly.
